SDGs in our exhibition
Sustainability is a huge topic and often feels abstract. Many people understand that global problems such as hunger exist, but there is a lack of concrete recommendations for action.
Since 2021, we at the Chocolate Museum have had a direct connection to the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. How does that work? With our Climate Chocolate Tree!
The Climate Chocolate Tree is a chocolate machine at the end of our tour on the 2nd floor. As soon as you insert a euro, it starts to flash, rumble, toot and jerk. The machine starts moving and three delicious Lindt chocolate balls roll down the downpipes through a huge funnel straight into the dispenser. At the same time, a tree counter next to the Climate Chocolate Tree jumps up.
That means: Congratulations - you have planted a tree and can enjoy chocolate from the vending machine as a reward!
Would you like to take part and help us plant a tree? Then visit our new exhibition "Chocolate is a feeling".
With every cent you donate to the Climate Chocolate Tree, we support our partner Plant-for-the-Planet on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. New trees are planted there and huge areas are renaturalized. We at the Chocolate Museum started the donation period from 2019 to 2021 with around 70,000 trees. In the meantime, we and our museum guests have already planted almost 170,000 trees through their donations to the Climate Chocolate Tree. This is how the SchokoForest was created in Mexico. The employees of Plant-for-the-Planet in Mexico plant and care for our SchokoForest. Click here for more information: Our cooperation with plant-for-the-planet
The environmental initiative Plant-for-the-Planet was founded in 2007, when nine-year-old Felix Finkbeiner had an idea: if people plant trees all over the world, this will have a positive effect on our climate. With the TrillionTreeCampaign, Plant-for-the-Planet has set itself the task of planting one trillion trees - there is easily enough room for that many trees on earth. How can this huge project succeed? Through donations - like the Climate Chocolate Tree - and through The Good Chocolate. The Good Chocolate from Plant-for-the-Planet is fairly traded and produced in a climate-conscious way. For every five bars sold, a tree is planted in the Volcano Valley near Toluca in Mexico.
Incidentally, the Climate Chocolate Tree is a unique specimen made especially for our museum. You won't find it anywhere else in the world. And even better: it helps to make the Chocolate Museum and your visit to us particularly climate-conscious! Come by and enhance your carbon footprint on your next visit to the Chocolate Museum in a simple and delicious way!
