Das Unternehmen Stollwerck ist wie nur wenig andere mit der Stadt Köln verbunden. Der aus Köln stammende Unternehmer Franz Stollwerck gründete seiner Zeit ein Werk zur Produktion von Hustenbonbons sowie eine Bäckerei in der Blindgasse, in der er seiner Kundschaft unter anderem Schokolade anbot.
The chocolate vending machines installed by Stollwerck proved to be extremely successful from as early as 1887. In 1893, around 15,000 vending machines sold Stollwerck chocolate, 4,000 of which were located in New York alone.
