SDG Scouts at the Chocolate Museum

SDG Scouts im Schokoladenmuseum

The theme of sustainability runs like a common thread through our ‘Cocoa's journey around the world’ exhibition

However, the Sustainable Development Goals room is not the only sign of the 2030 Agenda in the Chocolate Museum.

Our museum has its own SDG scouts. They act as a kind of mediator and are there, among other things, to initiate change processes in their respective environments. The Chocolate Museum is the environment for our scouts.

Scouts for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This article takes a closer look at how some of our employees became Scouts and what exactly the role of the SDG Scouts at the Chocolate Museum is.

      What is an SDG Scout?

As the term "scout" suggests, an SDG scout is a kind of scout, observer or spotter. Not a scout for the next big soccer prodigy, but for the sustainability goals. SDG Scouts are employees of a company who have the task and the will to promote sustainability in their own company. Based on the 17 goals, they try to make their company more sustainable from the inside. With the necessary knowledge, which they acquire in training courses lasting several days, they should recognize potential for improvement and implement sustainable projects in their company.

For example, the participants were first given a detailed explanation of the goals of the agenda. They were then asked what the goals have to do with their own lives. It is precisely this realization that sustainability should be a part of all our lives that is the foundation for making a difference in your own company as a Scout.

In the further course of the training, the sustainability goals were of course related to the topics of chocolate and cocoa. To enable our museum guides to explain the goals to our museum guests, we have developed an SDG Scout certificate course in collaboration with Engagement Global. Various sustainable chocolate production initiatives were presented to give the participants an impression of what is already being done to achieve the sustainability goals in the area of chocolate production. The training days also focused on making the prospective scouts aware that they have to be the start.

During the training days, the participants learned to act as multipliers for sustainability and to initiate their own sustainable projects. The aim is also to make the sustainability goals known in their own environment, whether privately or professionally.

Sustainability is everyone's business. For this reason, the SDG Scouts are used as mediators for the Sustainable Development Goals. To make a difference in their company and beyond. For a more sustainable future. A future in line with the 2030 Agenda.

I'm Lewin and I'm from Cologne. During my internship semester, I worked in marketing at the Chocolate Museum for six months. Here are three things you should know about me: - I am a proud soccer fan of 1. FC Köln. - My favorite food is milk chocolate, preferably refined with cornflakes. - My favorite place in the Chocolate Museum is from another world: our tropical house, which transports you to the Brazilian rainforest in seconds.
